Locomotive 5972 Olton Hall Hogwarts Express - Cab access during weekend of Toy Fair
Saturday, 2nd and Sunday, 3rd July the 5th Toy and Train Collectors' Fair was held at Locomotion, The National Railway Museum at Shildon, County Durham.
Organised by David Poole of Pooley’s Puffers, Gateshead, the two day event hosted a display of trade tables with various collectable toys including model railways, diecast vehicles, TV related, aeroplanes and much more. The Hornby Rail Collectors’ Association attended with their O gauge display as did the Ace Collectors Club. Also, attending for the first time, Brian Caton from York, with his live steam O gauge trains. Giving life expired Hornby trains a new lease of life.
Special guest, the former GWR Hall Class steam locomotive no. 5972 Olton Hall, better known as Hogwarts Castle - the locomotive which hauls the Hogwarts Express - was placed on the front apron. The museum provided cab access to enable visitors to examine this famous locomotive from the driver’s cab. And don’t forget Mallard is still at Shildon, always a spectacular sight.
The first Toy and Train Collectors' Fair to take place was in 2006, bringing together trade stands, model railway layouts, static displays and the museum's impressive collection of rolling stock. As the fair is only once a year, every effort is put into the event, to ensure visitors and traders alike have a successful and enjoyable weekend. Whether you are looking for that long sort after piece to complete your collection or the everyday essential, we aim to please. Several local model clubs attend the fair displaying layouts of various gauges, providing an added interest for our visitors. Combine the toy and train fair with a look at the museum exhibits, wander through the grounds and imagine days gone when the area was a throng of busy working railways. Have a family day out, there is a playground for the children and several picnic areas. Refreshments are available.
Transport from the car parks to the main building will be available either by brake van ride or the Eco bus except during lunch time break, appromimately 12:30 until 1:15pm. The new events car park is now open for visitors and is situated after Ashfields yard through Dale Road Industrial Estate.
